WHat do you guys think is the best grocery store in the Wilkes-Barre area?  I usually shop at Wegman's, I haven't tried Price Chopper yet.  Sunshine Market was nice when it was still open.  What do you guys think?

Wegman's all the way.  I have food allergies and they are VERY accommodating.  Plus, the Wegman's brand products are not your typical store brand quality.  It's much better!

Wegmans, Mr. Z's, and Pricechopper would be my top choices.

I really like Wegmans nad I think a lot of it has to do with the employees. The whole atmosphere is great!

Wegman's is definitely the best.  The Weis in Dallas is also a good choice for some organic, local food choices and they are open 24 hours a day.  If a Trader Joe's were to open in the area, then that would be my pick.

I vote for Wegman's too...simply because of the healthy choices available.  Weis and Price Chopper has some organic products too, but Wegman's far exceeds what they both have!

And I agree...Trader Joe's or Whole Foods would be great in this area.  I've never been to either, but I've heard from friends that Whole Foods is awesome!

Are Wegmans, Price Chopper & Walmart the only decent sized supermarkets in Wilkes-Barre or within 5 miles?
We are moving there in 2 weeks or so & I did check out all 3 and visited them 2 weeks ago..
What did they have in the old days, before the "mall" and "strip" areas were built?
We will be in the city, off Hazel Ave

As of right now I'll join the majority and give the nod to Wegman's.

I think what could really serve to do a lot to help "seal the deal" in reinforcing Downtown Wilkes-Barre's recent redevelopment efforts could be to convince a speciality market we don't currently have in this area (i.e. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Dean & DeLuca, etc.) to move there. Such a business opening would draw in suburban shoppers from the Back Mountain, Mountain Top, the West Side, and Greater Pittston the way Wegman's currently does and will also give people another reason to see a benefit in living in Downtown Wilkes-Barre. As more people move here, foot traffic will increase, helping to deter crime, boost the downtown's image, shore up existing businesses, and encourage new businesses (potentially even larger employers) to move here. I know people in Wilkes-Barre whine that Mayor Leighton has spent too much time revitalizing the downtown district while neglecting other neighborhoods, but, truth be told, Wilkes-Barre could have excellent neighborhoods, but with a decreipt downtown very few will want to come in and invest. I now live in the Reston section of Fairfax County, Virginia. What drew me here? It had a vibrant downtown area unlike any other community in the area. I could walk to a skating rink, movie theater, restaurants, shops, bars, festivals, etc. Many move here for that same reason. Want people to be drawn to Wilkes-Barre again? Keep up the momentum Downtown. Don't let it die when it has come so far in just a few short years.

WEGMANS!!! The employees become your friends. The meat, fish and produce are the best in the area. Prices comparable to most other stores. AND CLEAN!
